US Army Sleeping Bag
Having spent over four years
in the United States Army Special Forces, and having trained in the northern part
of the United States and Canada, I became intimately familiar with the US Army
sleeping bag. Sleeping bags in the US Army have been designed, tailored and
manufactured for maximum durability and usefulness. In all my camping adventures
since being in the Army I have found no equal to the US Army sleeping bag.
Why Would You Want to Choose US Army Sleeping Bag
The US Army sleeping
bag is made up of four different parts. The first part is the extreme
weather interior bag. This is a large downy sleeping bag that has a long
zipper down the side with snaps that allow the user to connect it to the
next part, the main bag. The extreme weather bag is made of black nylon,
but because of its weight, we only used it when we expected extremely cold
environments.
The main bag is similar to
the extreme weather bag, but is slightly less thick. This is the most similar
to a light weight sleeping bag that is sold in camping stores for civilians.
It has a black interior and an olive drab green exterior. Unlike the extreme
weather bag, the olive drab bag is made of two light weight nylon pieces with
very little material between. This bag could be used in conjunction with the
extreme weather bag, or singly if it was not cold out. It too had a sturdy
zipper and snaps that connect it to the other parts.
The bevy sack was the lightest
weight piece of the sleeping bag. The bevy sack has a camouflage exterior and is
made of a must stouter, waterproof nylon. The bevy sack was designed to be used
as the final and outer layer of the sleeping bag system and as it had a hood
attachment, would completely cover the user in case of thunderstorm or extreme
cold. In hot environments we would use just the bevy sack with no other inserts
as it allowed for protection from the elements but did not make us too hot.
The final piece of the sleeping
bag system was the stuff sack. The stuff sack was used to transport the US Army
sleeping bag system. It was large enough to pack away the sleeping bag with all
of the inserts and keep it packed away in a rucksack or back pack.
Keeping Warm and Cosy with US Army Sleeping Bag
When all four of these pieces
of equipment that comprised the US Army sleeping bag were used they created a
formidable system that could keep the user safe and secure in any weather
conditions.
